Enamelled Nichrome 80/20 is an alloy of 80% nickel and 20% chromium, making it the best known resistive alloy.
It contains rare earth additions for increased resistance to oxidation, especially under conditions of frequent switching or wide temperature fluctuations.
It gives outstanding performance at temperatures up to 1200°C and will operate at these high temperatures under the most demanding conditions. It is the first choice for all heating elements operating at high temperatures or for any element subject to major heating and cooling cycles in both domestic and industrial applications.
Electric ovens, high-temperature elements and heating batteries are among the other typical applications for this alloy. This grade has excellent resistance to hot flow and very good dimensional stability of the coils with successive heating cycles. In an alternating oxidising/reducing atmosphere, Nichrome 80/20 may be subject to “green rot”.
